Ethics for the Occupational Safety and Health Profession: Professional Ethics, Data, and AI in Modern EHS Practice
Occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals who hold professional certifications or belong to professional organizations understand that adherence to a code of ethics is a foundational requirement of professional practice. Ethical practice, however, extends beyond knowing the rules—it requires sound judgment when navigating real‑world pressures, emerging technologies, and increasing regulatory and legal scrutiny.
This session examines professional ethics through the lens of today’s OSH practice, including conflicts of interest, duty to inform, documentation integrity, interaction with regulators, and the ethical challenges introduced by data analytics, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI). Through discussion and case‑based scenarios, participants will explore how ethical decisions—both actions and omissions—can carry professional, legal, and reputational consequences.
This two‑hour session is designed to satisfy professional ethics continuing education requirements, including the BCSP/CIH ethics requirements, and is appropriate for safety, health, and industrial hygiene professionals working in consulting, corporate, and governmental roles.
