Description:
Colorado has implemented a two-tiered health standard for methamphetamine (meth) but the higher standard only applies to limited areas. The health standard for crawlspaces and attics is 8-fold higher than for the rest of the house or property, yet people spend far less than 12% of their time in these parts of the house, so the second tier might be worth reconsideration. Do other areas qualify for higher standards as well, such as exterior hallways and stairwells? As meth is primarily a dermal and ingestion hazard, what standards should there be for HVAC systems? These and other issues need to be discussed, and recommendations developed for consideration of other standards for meth. We hope to get audience critiques of the technical support and thought process behind the recommendations, working towards consensus over the issues in this interactive session.
Learning Objectives:
The concept of equivalent dose will be contrasted with equivalent exposure potential. We will review the calculations that went into the existing standards as well as the proposed standards.
